Developing Climate Resilient Cities in Asia: The How's, Why's and So What's
Panel Discussion
A 1.5°C future require urgent, scalable action by numerous global stakeholders including those based in cities and settlements. In Asia, where urbanisation rates will significantly increase over the next 30 years, the concentrations of people and key infrastructure will lead to increased climate risks, but paradoxically, also increases the potential for Asian cities to enable climate resilient outcomes to occur.
How can Asian cities reduce biodiversity losses, climate risks and greenhouse gas emissions, while attaining sustainable development outcomes? We invite you to attend this panel comprising of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) authors who will present the principles of climate resilient development, explain why they are important in Asian cities, and discuss how can be achieved through policies and involvement of multiple municipal agencies and stakeholders.

Redefining Transition Finance and Supporting Capital Mobilisation
Fireside Chat
To reach net zero by 2050, the world needs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 45% by 2030, relative to 2010 baseline levels. Estimates indicate that by 2030 an additional $1 trillion per annum will be required for clean energy investment in emerging markets and developing economies alone to put the world on track to reach net zero by 2050.
The fireside chat will touch on the current landscape of transition finance, and discuss some of key challenges in scaling transition, including how central banks and private-sector coalitions like GFANZ are addressing these challenges.
Panellists:
Mark Carney, United Nations Special Envoy for Climate Action and Finance and Co-Chair, GFANZ
Ravi Menon, Managing Director, Monetary Authority of Singapore and Chair, GFANZ Asia Pacific Advisory Board
Moderator:
Hiro Mizuno, United Nations Special Envoy on Innovative Finance and Sustainable Investments

Approaching the Managed Phaseout of Coal Power Generation in Asia Pacific
Panel Discussion
According to the International Energy Agency, all unabated coal-fired power generation in advanced economies need to be phased-out by 2030, and worldwide by 2040, in order to limit the long-term increase in average global temperatures to 1.5°C.
The panel aims to discuss how financial institutions can approach the early retirement of coal-fired power plants in the Asia Pacific. This topic will be explored from three angles - transition credibility (what makes a transaction a "managed phaseout"), financial viability (how are such transactions financeable for both debt and equity), and socio-economic inclusivity (how to ensure a "just" transition out of coal).
Panellists:
Meg Argyriou, Head of International and Country Context, Climateworks Centre
Koben Calhoun, Principal, Rocky Mountain Institute
Moderator:
Yuki Yasui, Managing Director, GFANZ Asia Pacific Network

Unpacking the Legal Risks of Carbon Transactions
Panel Discussion
Panel on mitigating the legal risks and harnessing opportunities of carbon transactions, throughout the carbon market ecosystem.
Nature and technology-based carbon transactions in the ASEAN region can generate top-quality carbon credits and are therefore attracting massive investment in the sector. However, carbon markets are relatively new to the region and are currently facing regulatory and legal grey areas considering carbon credits are largely unregulated, and the existing agreements are bilateral between landowners/project developers and buyers of credits. This panel will discuss the nature of these legal and regulatory risks and explore mitigation measures so carbon transactions can become smoother in the near future.

Generating a Supply of High-Quality Credits
Panel Discussion
The growth of carbon credit markets has accelerated significantly over the past year, and is poised to grow ten-fold by 2030. The space is rapidly evolving, with broadening market diversity, new players, and increased blurring between compliance and voluntary markets.
Well-functioning international carbon markets for high-quality carbon credits can advance global climate action and support higher climate ambition. Market actors across public, private, academia, and civil societies need to work together to sustain growth and unlock new supply of high quality carbon credits that can contribute towards a shared net-zero future. Hydrogen as a low-carbon energy source is experiencing a global resurgence, but scaling up is challenging due to high cost barriers. Can carbon markets help lower costs and accelerate deployment?

Unpacking the Legal Risks of Carbon Transactions |
Panel Discussion |

Generating a Supply of High-Quality Credits |
Panel Discussion |
Panellists: Owen Hewlett, Chief Technical Officer, Gold Standard Dr Gokce Mete, Senior Manager, Global Hydrogen Stakeholder Platform, South Pole Dr Axel Michaelowa, Senior Founding Partner, Perspectives Climate Group David Antonioli, Chief Executive Officer, Verra Moderator: Anshari Rahman, Vice President, Strategy and Development Group, GenZero |

Energising Clean Transitions in Southeast Asia and Beyond
Panel Discussion
To achieve net zero globally, Southeast Asia must grow while decarbonising its energy and power sectors. The size of the region's economies, as well as its power demand, are set to triple by 2050. However, fossil fuel plants still power majority of the Southeast Asia countries - contributing to 75% of its power supply.
Southeast Asia must attract much greater energy sector investment to accelerate its clean energy transition and meet the rising demand for energy services.
The panel discussion will focus on emerging clean energy project opportunities in Southeast Asia, how investors and businesses can complement public financing to unlock these opportunities, and learnings from the clean energy transitions of Southeast Asia and other emerging regions.
