Approaching the Managed Phaseout of Coal Power Generation in Asia Pacific - 08 Nov 2022
According to the International Energy Agency, all unabated coal-fired power generation in advanced economies need to be phased-out by 2030, and worldwide by 2040, in order to limit the long-term increase in average global temperatures to 1.5°C.
The panel aims to discuss how financial institutions can approach the early retirement of coal-fired power plants in the Asia Pacific. This topic will be explored from three angles - transition credibility (what makes a transaction a "managed phaseout"), financial viability (how are such transactions financeable for both debt and equity), and socio-economic inclusivity (how to ensure a "just" transition out of coal).
