Singapore Green Building Masterplan
Singapore is advancing our transition into a low-carbon built environment through the Singapore Green Building Masterplan (SGBMP), an initiative by Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and the Singapore Green Building Council.
Singapore has made good progress towards the three “80-80-80 in 2030” targets set out in SGBMP. Just under 60% of buildings by gross floor area have been greened as of July 2024, between 20 and 30% of new developments will be certified as Super Low Energy buildings by the end of the year and best-in-class buildings have achieved an average of 72% energy efficiency improvement compared to 2005 levels.
A new measure to be implemented is the Mandatory Energy Improvement regime, which will require owners of energy-intensive buildings to reduce the building’s energy consumption.
BCA is also encouraging the adoption of Alternative Cooling Technologies that offer thermal comfort and maintain indoor air quality, while using lesser energy compared to traditional methods. An example is BCA’s Zero Energy Building (ZEB) – Singapore’s first existing office building to achieve positive energy and demonstrate good energy performance through efficient hybrid cooling and radiant cooling systems.
