Greening the Energy and Chemicals Sector

Jurong Island, the heart of Singapore's Energy and Chemicals sector, is undergoing a transformation to operate sustainably and export sustainable products globally.

Announced in the Sustainable Jurong Island Report, Singapore aspires for the Energy and Chemicals sector to increase its output of sustainable products by four times from 2019 levels and achieve more than 6 million tonnes of carbon abatement per annum from low-carbon solutions by 2050.

In order to reach the long-term goals, Singapore has set out to achieve the following key targets for the Energy and Chemicals sector by 2030:
  1. Increase the output of sustainable products by 1.5 times from 2019 levels.
  2. Ensure that the refineries and crackers in Singapore are in the top quartile of the world in terms of energy efficiency.
  3. Realise at least 2 million tonnes of carbon capture potential.
