Greening our Industries

We are transforming our Energy & Chemicals (E&C) and Data Centre (DC) sectors.

E&C

Sustainable Jurong Island (JI) seeks to be an E&C park that operates sustainably and manufactures globally competitive products.

In 2023, Arkema began production of its high-performance polymer on JI. Derived from renewable castor beans, it will be used in EVs, 3D printing and consumer goods. Kuraray will also build a new plant to produce Ethylene Vinyl Alcohol, a packaging material resin that reduces food deterioration and loss by serving as an oxygen barrier. Products by Arkema and Kuraray would have a positive impact on Scope 4 emissions.

DCs

While DCs are a critical foundation of the digital economy – underpinning digital services, operations and transactions – they are heavy users of power and water. As a regional DC hub, Singapore seeks to pioneer solutions to address the challenge of sustainable DC growth.

Developed with industry input, the Green DC Roadmap aims to provide a sustainable growth pathway for DCs in Singapore to push the boundaries on two fronts: (a) improving DCs’ energy efficiency at the hardware and software levels; and (b) accelerating DCs’ use of green energy to expand capacity.
