Reducing Methane Emissions from Rice Farming in Asia

Rice presents a significant climate and food security challenge in Asia. Besides being a staple food for more than half of the world's population, rice cultivation is also the second-largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in agri-food due to methane-emitting bacteria generated from flooded rice paddy fields.

To address this challenge, GenZero, together with Temasek, Breakthrough Energy Ventures and Wavemaker Impact, launched an agri-tech startup named Rize.

Rize seeks to identify and implement effective strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from rice cultivation while providing relevant economic incentives to drive adoption of sustainable rice farming practices.
