Blended Finance Initiative to promote Climate-Smart Agriculture

Despite progress, the Asia-Pacific region faces severe climate challenges that affect agriculture, which is highly sensitive to climate change. This endangers rural livelihoods, income and food security. Urgent climate adaptation initiatives are needed to reduce socio-economic risks and strengthen ecosystem resilience.

Recognising agriculture's crucial role, AVPN and our partners are supporting agri-SMEs and startups in India and Indonesia through innovative financing mechanisms. Due to the vibrant ecosystem of climate actors and funders in Asia, including Singapore, we will bring together philanthropic funders, commercial funders and family offices from India, Indonesia and Singapore to support this facility.

Climate Pathfinders

Climate Pathfinders was established to address the gap in climate financing and spotlight Asian leadership in this domain.

AVPN has conducted landscape research to map the ecosystem barriers, designed capacity building programmes for funders and convened funders from across Asia.

Apart from funders, the programme has facilitated multi-stakeholder engagement by facilitating online engagements with experts from academia, think tanks, financial organisations and implementation partners to provide insights on the entire spectrum of climate mitigation, adaptation and resilience. Till date, the programme has engaged an estimated 110 participants since its launch in January 2022.

Climate x Health: Lighthouse for Asia

The climate crisis threatens health by compromising food, water and air quality, and worsening diseases in Asia Pacific, which requires significant investment and integrated strategies.

In partnership with Bayer Foundation, AVPN launched Climate x Health: Lighthouse for Asia to aggregate knowledge, incubate innovations and mobilise capital. Our Climate x Health: Opportunity Primer highlights solutions like dengue prediction tests and water purification products.

We're raising a US$5 million-pooled fund to transition from intent to action. We urge social investors to support these innovative solutions to advance health, well-being and environmental sustainability across Asia.

Facilitating People-centric Energy Transition

AVPN focuses on building capacity for the ecosystem at large to advocate for the equitable energy transition process in Asia and facilitate the channelling of catalytic capital via blended finance vehicles.

AVPN aims to leverage trusted partnerships that we have established in recent years with key policy stakeholders, funders and investors in the ecosystem to build a powerful coalition of actors with a shared commitment to accelerate action and progress to achieving net zero targets in Asia.

Gender Climate Strategy

Women disproportionately bear the impacts of climate change, facing higher risks of poverty, displacement, injury, death and violence. Over-represented in vulnerable sectors like natural resources, agriculture and the informal economy, they have limited adaptive capacity.

To address these challenges, AVPN has launched a three-year strategy (2024–2027) for its Gender Equality Platform, aiming to support gender funders and leaders, mobilise capital and tackle issues like equitable energy access and health impacts on women and girls.

AVPN will conduct a roadshow across South and Southeast Asia, including Singapore, to mobilise the vibrant ecosystem of funders in supporting gender climate action.

Harnessing the Power of Digital Technologies for Climate Adaptation

Warming rates in the Asia-Pacific region exceed the global average. Inadequate adaptation to rising climate risks poses significant economic and social threats. However, digital technologies offer rapid, cost-effective solutions and opportunities for social investors.

We highlight innovative climate adaptation technologies, including climate and health intelligence systems, weather forecasting and resource management. We will engage with investors, government agencies and policymakers to address policy challenges hindering climate tech innovation and build consensus on actionable solutions to mobilise capital to advance these technologies for sustainable change across APAC.
