Empowering Seafarers for a Sustainable Future: Leadership in Methanol Fuel Training
The Singapore Maritime Academy (SMA) at Singapore Polytechnic is leading the global maritime workforce's transition to cleaner fuels with a cutting-edge curriculum on methanol as a ship's fuel. This programme equips seafarers with essential skills for safely operating methanol-powered vessels, focusing on safety protocols, handling procedures and environmental considerations.
SMA integrates advanced augmented reality/virtual reality (AR/VR) technologies into training, which are developed with the Centre of Excellence in Maritime Safety (CEMS@SP). Strong partnerships with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore and industry stakeholders ensure alignment with industry standards for sustainable maritime practices.
