Maritime Decarbonisation Virtual Reality Training for Handling Methanol as a Fuel
The Centre of Excellence in Maritime Safety (CEMS) features a state-of-the-art Immersive Learning Laboratory designed to safely replicate high-risk scenarios that would be costly to recreate in reality.
Our current focus is on developing immersive training modules for methanol fuel operations, two of which are:
- Operation of gas detectors and thermal cameras for leak/fire detection
- Execution of methanol bunkering and emergency response during leakage incidents
The development roadmap includes multi-sensory, mixed reality experiences on emerging fuels like ammonia, offering trainees a safe platform to familiarise with the distinct properties of these fuels, including olfactory cues.
