Infusing Greenery into Our Living Environment

City in Nature

After six decades of greening efforts, Singapore is one of the greenest cities in the world. Our City in Nature vision seeks to strengthen the presence of nature in our urban environment for residents to experience the benefits of nature in our everyday lives.

As one of the five pillars of the Singapore Green Plan 2030, the City in Nature vision aims to make Singapore more liveable, sustainable and climate-resilient through the following strategies:
  1. Conserve and extend Singapore's natural capital by expanding our Nature Park Network
  2. Intensify nature in gardens and parks, such as through habitat restoration
  3. Restore nature into the urban landscape including through implementing skyrise greenery
  4. Strengthen connectivity between green spaces through networks of ecological corridors, Nature Ways and park connectors

This vision will be underpinned by the support and involvement of the community.

Commemorating 60 Years of Greening

On 16 Jun 1963, founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew planted a Cratoxylum formosum (Mempat) tree at Farrer Circus, kickstarting Singapore's nationwide greening campaign. The following decades saw continuous efforts to green up Singapore. In 2023, we commemorate 60 years of greening and conservation efforts with the community, who have played a key role in co-creating the high-quality living environment that Singaporeans enjoy today.
