Climate Research to Guide Adaptation Plans
Climate science enables us to understand the impacts of climate change and plan our climate adaptation efforts. In particular, more can be done to deepen our understanding of how climate change will unfold in the tropics and the Indo-Pacific Maritime Continent, commonly termed as the “engine room of the global climate system”.
Released in January 2024, Singapore’s Third National Climate Change Study (V3) provides the world’s first high-resolution climate change projections for Singapore and the wider Southeast Asia (SEA) region. V3 projects higher temperatures, more wet and dry extremes and accelerating increase in mean sea levels for Singapore and SEA by 2100.
V3 findings will help countries in SEA to better understand and adapt to the impacts of climate change at a more localised level. To support this, Singapore has been progressively sharing V3 data with SEA countries and the wider research community. Singapore also hosts the ASEAN Specialised Meteorological Centre to support and enhance weather and climate services to the region.
